The MiG-15 was produced in numerous variants, including fighter, fighter-bomber, two seat all weather interceptor, reconnaissance, target tug, and dual control trainer. Nearly 18,000 are believed to have been built in the USSR, China, Poland, and Czechoslovakia. NATO code names for the type were Fagot and Midget.

The MiG-15 Bis and MiG-15 have little difference in the shape of the aircraft. However, the MiG-15bis aircraft produced after 1953 added the instruments and equipment required for night and complicated weather flights, so under their wings are equipped with black "π" antennas with radio altimeters. The improved prototype flew for the first time in September 1949 and was put into production in 1952, named MiG-15bis. "Bis" is derived from Latin and means "again", which means "an improved version derived from the prototype".

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 (NATO reporting name: Fresco) is a high-subsonic fighter aircraft produced in the USSR from 1952 and operated by numerous air forces in many variants. It is an advanced development of the similar looking MiG-15 of the Korean War and was license-built in China as the Shenyang J-5 and in Poland as the PZL-Mielec Lim-6.
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 (NATO code: "Fagot") was a jet fighter aircraft developed by Mikoyan-Gurevich OKB for the Soviet Union. The MiG-15 is one of the first successful fighter jets to incorporate swept wings to achieve high transonic speeds. The MiG-15 was actually significantly smaller than the F-86, with only about 80% of the empty weight, though it tended to look bigger because its fuselage was relatively plump, as dictated by its VK-1 centrifugal flow engine. The slender Sabre arguably had the edge in sheer good looks, but the MiG-15 had an admirable warlike style of its own. Although the MiG-15 (NATO Fagot) has long been superseded in its front-line capacity, many countries - including China, Cuba, Indonesia, Morocco, Syria and the United Arab Republic - used the MiG-l5UTI (Nato Midget) into the late 1960s, and some are still serving in the early 1980s. MiG-15 (NATO code name "Fagot") It was in the frozen skies of Korea that the MiG-15 proved one of the most formidable fighters of its generation.
